Junior Data Scientist (Operations)

placeZaandam calendar_month

Your day is done—you’ve pushed your code, and it’s already been reviewed and merged. The next day you have training as part of the Albert Heijn Data Talent Track. Now it’s time to grab some groceries on the way home. Walking through the refrigerated aisles of your local Albert Heijn store, you spot a great bargain—salad leaves marked down to 70%, thanks to a dynamic discount model you helped develop, ensuring products sell before expiration and avoiding waste.

As you walk towards the bakery department, the aroma of freshly baked goods fills the air. You take pride in knowing that your optimized baking plan is behind the freshness and quality of these products. Stepping out onto the street you realize that it’s not just your local store—these models run in more than a thousand stores across the Netherlands and Belgium.

Does a job with such tangible impact at such scale motivates you? Do you want to use your skills to solve a wide set of practical and challenging problems? We're looking for talented curious people to join and strengthen our Operations Analytics and Data Science team!

As Junior Data Scientist (Operations) you:

  • Improve our algorithms through analysis, modelling and experimentation
  • Code, test and put models into production
  • Work on ETL pipelines to make sure we work with up-to-date and correct data
  • Convey complex ideas to different audiences in an effective manner
  • Work in multidisciplinary product teams closely to our business stakeholders
  • Share your knowledge with and learn from other team members

We’re looking for candidates with:

  • A Master in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Econometrics, Computer Science, or other relevant studies
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and Applied Statistical techniques
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience using modern software development practices (IDEs, Unit testing, Version Control, CI/CD, etc.)
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms, Databricks and Spark is a plus
We find it important that you can be yourself at Albert Heijn in an environment that is open to different perspectives, an environment where we are curious and appreciate each other. For this position, we preferably seek someone who enhances the diversity in our team, in the broadest sense of the word.

Someone who brings a different voice from their own background and personal characteristics, thereby being a good addition to our team.

Learning and personal growth are core values of our department. Our Data Talent Track is a one-and-a-half-year program available to our young analysts and data scientists. It consists of soft and hard skills training that helps you develop your professional skills.

Courses on communication, on personal leadership and on writing better code. You’ll also get a chance to help in the store for a day or help build the ideas of the future in a Hackathon. Want to know more? Follow this link: AH Data Talent Track
